error codes help!
98 Jeep Cherokee sport, 6cyl about 200k.. getting these 3 codes p0340, p0320, p1391. I have had these codes for over a year now and continue to drive it. There seems to be some sort of intermitent skip here and there.. generally at about 55mph and 2k rpms.. I have replaced the crank position sensor (i believe, it on was ontop of the transmision), distributor cap and rotor, plugs and wires. Any other suggestions? From what I've been reading it may be a bad wire some where? any suggestions how to and where to look? Thanks in advance!

A breakdown of your codes.
P0340: No cam signal at PCM
P0320: No crank reference signal at PCM
P1391: Intermittent loss of cam or crank signal
As you already replaced the crankshaft position sensor and you are still seeing these codes, I think the odds are high that the problem is within the "camshaft position sensor" circuit. All of the codes you are seeing can be triggered by either the cam or the crank sensor circuits.
The cam sensor is located inside of your distributor. I'd replace it with a quality sensor from the Jeep dealer or NAPA, not an el-cheapo sensor from ebay. When you have the connector removed, thoroughly spray it with electrical contact cleaner and add a dab of dielectric grease before you reconnect.
Good luck and be sure to keep us updated. We're all learning every day through this forum, so updating us with the resolve of your issue helps us to continue to increase our understanding of our XJs!

The cam sensor is in the distributer under the rotor, you can get a re-manned distributor as well, for I have seen many where the shaft bearing goes bad and makes the signal for the cam sensor go crazy

The cam sensor is part of the actual distributor. It's possible that they call it something else like a stator or synch generator.
But just ask them for the sensor that is part of the distributor, under the rotor. If they don't know what sensor that is, you have the wrong parts store.

bad news! as soon as I reset the codes and drove for a few miles, the check engine light came back on and it continues to skip periodicly.. I haven't ran the codes again, but I would assume they are still the same.. HELP!

I wouldn't assume anything when it comes to codes. Verify them.

Just some friendly advice, but if you plan on keeping the Cherokee, find a cheap code reader online or at your local parts store. I got mine for 45 bones on sale and it has saved me a lot of headaches. These things have a million sensors, plus the reader can be used on any ODB2 system. Another thing, new parts (sensors etc) can be faulty even when new. I found that out with some sensor I got. Funny thing, I returned the sensor and bought the code reader with the refunded money. Hope this helps!
