Default Ethernet in a Rig???????????

So there I am putzing around trying to figure out the best way to hang a trash bag on the passenger side floor. I moved some wires around when this dropped down....(first pic)

Now I know computers. I'm ok w/ autos but this really threw me. Anyone have any ideas why this is here? The other end of this is cut and zip tied w/ some more wires; one plastic cover has a red, black, yellow, purple and maybe one other wire I cant remember, and also a thin coax cable.

Were these going to some kind of audio/video set-up? Any thoughts are appreciated. If it's something I can use in the future cool. Right now they are just a bunch of dead wires. BTW, when I was putting in my cd player there was a plastic cover with a mass of different colored wired in it. I've seen posts about a speaker bar, or speakers in the ceiling. Maybe that's what they went to but the only thing I could do was cut them from the old radio. Is that mas of wires connected to the one's pictured here possibly?

Could be a million different things man. Who'd you buy the Jeep from? Government heep? I know mine was an Electric Power Board jeep that was used by substation inspectors and had all sorts of fancy wires runnin through it to run their equipment. One was a 48pin connector, 2 "ethernet" cables, and a couple power supplys/grounds

I got it from a guy who was told by his doctor he could not get into wheeling beause of a heart condition. Felt bad for him. But his loss, my gain. Anyway I'm pretty sure the other wires are for subwoofer or what not. But that dang ethernet really has me thinking....mobile wireless? LOL

Is it ethernet or smaller like phone line? The small coax could be where someone had a cb hooked up. I found something similar to that in my Jeep when I got it too. Although I don't know how cb's really hook up but mine did come with a cb antenna holder already stuck to the window.

I really don't know of any way you could actually hook up a wired connection to the internet inside a vehicle. Wireless, more likely....I am just guessing here.

But yeah, if it belonged to city, state, or federal govt or anything like power company, wildlife service, or any private company that deals in animal tracking it could have been something they hooked up to their antennas and such. (throwing the wildlife tracking out there because my aunt/uncle did that for a long time and they drove some vehicles with all kinds of antenna type stuff stuck to the roof)

In the 80's I was a Manager and had simalier hock ups in my car, one was for the Mobil Car phone that was not mobil from the car, the other was the two way radio.

Had an 89 Cherokee when I was working in Toronto. Company vehicle and had a "Mobile Phone" the only thing mobile was the jeep! Same wires and hook ups. I purchased the Jeep for my then wife who complained it wasn't a Volvo. Had to get rid of both when the recession hit!

Another possibility is that one of the previous owners what a ham radio operator. Some of the newer radios have remote control heads that are connected via RJ-45 cables like you have pictured. And the coax connector appears to be one that would connect to either a CB or Ham Radio.

Sometime next year I hope to be putting my ham rig in the Jeep. Have some cleaning up and more repairs to do before I get to that point.

I've seen these kind of ethernet-style hook ups on some anti theft/remote start modules. Just a thought.
