Ethernet in a Rig???????????
#16
It doesnt look factory.. thats for certain. May have been for some sort of aftermarket performance management system, or a computerized audio system (hook a laptop to the ethernet to transfer files the audio system hard-drive). I dont think it has anything to do with the wire bundle you are talking about for the stereo. Sound quality would be poor to reduce the audio to ethernet.
You never know. One thing is for certain, you always see some nifty home-made upgrades in Cherokee's... I once hooked up an 800w power inverter, then ran outlets throughout the jeep... looked like a normal wall outlet. I also once had installed a refrigerator, but decided to uninstall it after my 3rd battery in 6 months (left refrigerator on while car was off).

Edit - Let me explain... The Coax is for the antenna that was at one time though the window. The other wires (red, yellow, black, and maybe a mute wire purple or white) go to a power source for constant and keyed power. The "ethernet" went from the main brain box to the base that the phone set in. Something like this one but with an external antenna. They have several boxes in them.

I've seen a few of the new upper end radar detectors that take an ethernet style plug. Beltronics and such, once they're hardwired in and the cigarette plug is cut off they're usually more of a pain to remove than to buy another cable. Lots get left in cars after that

You can have ethernet in your rig.

low profile satellite dishes that fit on roof racks. Now we can log into cf while wheeling, freaking sweet.

Why is everyone acting like mobile internet is so hard!?
Just get a USB Cellular Card, put internet on your cellular plan, and call it good! Plug the card into your laptop and you're ready to surf the web almost anywhere, even in a moving vehicle (not while driving of course...)

The previous owner was likely a HAM radio operator. That silver plug is a UHF/PL259 connector for the antenna. The 'ethernet' cable was likely what attached the remote face to the radio, or the mic to the radio.
Did you find any antenna mounts on the rig?

That's why I like this forum, feedback, and not stupid crap. I appreciate all the input and it's defiantly given me stuff to consider. If I do get a CB least I'm half way there. I don't see any antennae hookups but I havent looked good but nothing Ive noticed outright. And yeah, about that TV satellite internet, TrcaVision A7....$4000....dont think I need it that bad, lol. Again thanx for everybody's input.

The only way to do internet, Would be wireless. ( must likely a phone service ) But that would only work as good as your cell phone does in boons. And with a good cell phone, you don't need a computer in the car anyways. My cell already has internet, e-mail, gps, etc. etc.

CB's are #1 coolness on the trail. And that wire is a remote line for an amp, likely for a sub. Count the pins in the original photograph, it has 2 less than "ethernet" cable.
