Help, just pulled the Dash to replace my heater core. I want to replace the evaporaror also, in case I want to fix AC down the line. But I found this wire… relay attached to the heater Box, which I believe is a temperature sensor.

It is just shoved into a hole in the old evaporaror, but the new one does not have any holes.

Is this temp sensor some «must have» for the Renix AC or can I just cut the wire and replace the relay?

 

Does this look OK? Just inserted the probe in between the fins of the evaporaror, about half way in.

 

It's a thermistor. It keeps the evap from freezing over. As long as you can seal the box and reconnect it, it should be fine.

Is that a Crown evap? Odd shape. Make sure you get a good seal all the way around.
