Default Evaporator “delete”

Just looking for some info on what I might need to do to “delete” my evaporator.

Ive decided to scrap the AC in my XJ because it’s just been a pain to fix and it’s never really worked all that well, plus I have another car that has all the AC a man could ask for.

Anyway, my question is, can I just leave the evaporator out of the HVAC box and block off the area that the expansion valve comes out of? Or do I need to get a non-AC HVAC box? Are there any differences internally between the two?

Why not just leave it in the box but unhooked. seems like alot of work for no real return..

Did you already take the box apart? If not, just remove the expansion valve and plug the lines to the evap..If you have it all apart, you could leave it out but you'd need to close the holes in the box and firewall to keep it sealed (no water, fumes from engine compartment, etc.)

I could do that, but my evaporator is plugged to high hell and the box itself is full of nasty stuff. I do have a new evaporator that I can throw in there, but would like to sell it later. I’ll see if it’s going to be a hassle plugging where the expansion valve comes out.

so the box itself has no differences between an XJ that has factory AC and one that doesn’t?

Can't say for sure. They are different part numbers. Obviously the NO AC one lacks the ports for the evap. Not sure how best to plug the holes in the firewall.

I did find an ebay listing for a non-AC box. Perhaps the pics there will help.
