Wow..... I can't believe I read the whole thread. Lots of non-scientifically verified information here (except for some of the linked articles). Basically what I have taken out of it is that if the Ethanol content is the same for regular and premium then there is no MPG saving reason to run premium in your XJ. Also, premium does not burn any cleaner than regular. The only possible reason to run premium would be if you have an older vehicle with no knock sensors and you have an engine knock or ping. If, however, the gas station in your area does have no ethanol in the premium gas, but does in regular, then you can get better MPGs from running the premium gas. This MPG increase will have nothing to do with the higher octane rating of the premium fuel and everything to do with the ethanol content.

This thread has got me on the hunt for 0% ethanol content fuel in my area. Usually get my fuel at Murphy USA which has stickers on the pumps that say "May contain up to 10% Ethanol". Usually go there simply for the convience since I am usually at Wal-Mart anyway. I may have to change to Chevron gas. Pay about 3 cents a gallon more, but, it may be worth it.

Found this link, http://pure-gas.org/ , shows that there is 1 place left in my hometown, and its on the other side of town in a rather unplesant part of town. If no one has found this link before, hope it helps someone.
