Engine crap. Thats a technical term

If it is gettting so hot that it is discoloring then your engine may be running lean (even if the head temp is lower, which might lead to believe of more troubles).

Your jeeps running rich and you either have a clogged muffler or cat

Clogged cat- very common when the engine is left to idle for long periods of time, like when you're waiting on a trail for someone in front of you to get unstuck.

What's the exhaust sound like? Any "whistling"?

Remove the muffler and see if that helps. If not then try removing the cat too.

Take it off, Look through it, bang it up see if anything comes out. Than keep it off and throw a flowmaster or a cherry bomb on there

Yeah mine had a hole in it and it was clogged up so i threw a flow40 on there, its nice and deep, turns alot of heads and everyone looks surprised when they see its an xj, but it does drone out at about 16-1800 rpms, but i like the deep hum. It also doesnt have an aggressive roar with revving like a cherrybomb would, but its deeper than a glasspack
