Exhaust Manifold Help

Default Exhaust Manifold Help

2001 Jeep Cherokee
136,000+ miles

Using Doorman Manifolds and Eastern Cat

the issue is that the manifolds don’t want to be flush with the cat, any tips on how I can fix this.

Thinking that might be the way it is supposed to be.
This is a shot of what I believe to be a factory system.
Reason I think it is factory is cause see how the down/intermediate pipe and the cat are one?
Anyway look close at the spacing.

I see no problems with your picture of the cats mounting to the manifilds...the one with your thumb by the O2 boss. The dual cats should end at a single connector that bolts to your downpipe. The picture of the cats welded into a downpipe is a repair

Yeah, that's how that connection fits. Trick is to tighten the flange equally on both sides so the gaps are even. Be careful not to ding the connection on the cat Don't fully tighten the cats until you get the entire exhaust mounted Recheck and retighten after a few heat/cool cycles. Retorque the manifolds too.

If you do end up dinging the flange area, no worries. Any exhaust shop can fix that, usually free of charge. You can bring the header and the cat to a shop and they may be able to change the angle of the flange to get it a bit closer. Let us know how you get it sorted.
