Default exhaust thread; summer project

money permitting, I'm planning on doing an entire overhaul on my exhaust this summer, the rusty's flowmaster 40 hasn't held up like I had hoped, and I am quite disappointed with it by now, it rusted very fast, it leaks, vibrates/shakes, hinders performance (dirty/clogged cat I think). So I am gonna try to redo it, new cat and all, does anyone have any suggestions on what to buy? good brands, catback, hi-flow, etc. Debating whether to have a shop custom make one or buy it and have it welded up. I'm gonna for sure have this one welded up cuz the flowmaster just uses exhaust clamps, which IMO suck hardcore. Trying to keep the cost fairly low, but any suggestions would be appreciated.

I ordered a factory replacement cat for my 93 from Summit for 100 bucks. It had the 4 bolt flange that bolted directly up to the collecter/down pipe. You can get a universal for even cheaper...like 64.00 or so. If you're super cheap, you can always rent a 110 mig welder from Home Depot or the like, and go to any parts store to buy your exhaust piping and your hangars. If you think about it, you won't have to put any bends on the pipe except for maybe a turn-down after the muffler. You can buy that too, already pre-bent. It would be a really cheap/easy venture to just do it yourself.

I've got a good relationship established with my exhaust shop, and I brought him everything to do the job with- he welded it all up on a slow day for a case of beer. Times are tough now, and you'd be suprised to see how many folks will do trading, or swap their labor for "X"

find the lowest price online for a walker cat and dynomax catback, print it out, take it to Advance Auto Parts and they will price match, then you get it for an online price and don't have to pay shipping. I got my catback and cat for under $220

APN header, ebay hi-flow cat, and any stainless muffler, try borla or magnaflow.

Maybe yours will, most wont price match online retailers. I work at Autozone, they wouldnt price match a cat for me, cause of the huge price difference. It has to be the same warranty and availability. Went to Advance and they wouldnt wither. And my store manager is usually chill about that. Im usuaully good about it though

go get a mandrel bent down pipe made a 2.5 or 2.25 stainless or aluminized pipe, then get urself a nice highflow cat, doesnt have to be specific, use same diameter as pipe, then do a glass pack, and if u want a tail pipe, get one thats mandrel bent, it'll be the best set up, and try to have as many seams welded as u think practical, but thats jmo

I agree on the APN header, it certainly seems to make a marked improvement from reviews I have heard. I got my cat at Summit for a great price, like $80 or so can't remember exactly. I would like to replace it with a 2.5" cat someday, and have a shop custom bend a dual exhaust for it based on a single inlet/dual outlet Dynomax Ultraflow or something someday. For now my exhaust is staying just how it is till I can afford the APN header!

any idea how much the APN header runs? i've never even heard of it, not sure if new headers are in my current budget but maybe I can work something out, I didn't see anything online about it. i have heard mixed reviews about dynomax, but good things about borla. i do like the sound of the flowmaster though. thanx for the input thus far everyone.

get the APN, bring it to a shop and have the O2 bungs welded on it. Or shell out $$ for the good ones.

You could go with Rugged Ridge, not sure how good they are but they are cheap. $199 for the raw steel and you can paint it yourself with some high heat enamel. I think thats what I'm going to get, to try and stay cheap.

I know it isn't for an '01, I'm not too sure what the difference is between the years, but its a start.
