factory high idle switch not working
Hello,
recently i was in the junkyard and found a factory "extended idle" switch in an 01 XJ sport. my buddy has a 00 SE, so i grabbed it for him, along with the 3 switch bezel since his only had switches for the defroster and the rear wiper. today we put it in, and we found that there was even a connector behind the bezel for the idle switch, it was plugged into a blank socket on the 2 switch bezel. on the 00 connector, there was a little ridge on the plug that wouldnt allow it to plug into the switch, however, i had cut off the connector with some wiring from the 01 at the junkyard so we would have a reference just in case, and we found that the wires are in the same places. so we filed off the ridge and the connector snaps in firmly. swapped the other switches into the new bezel and screwed the bezel back in. fired it up, let the idle settle, then flipped the switch, and....nothing. no change in idle speed. the little orange light on the switch did not light up either. but with the headlights on, the backlighting in the switch does work, so i know the switch is making a connection. tried both in park and in neutral with the same result.
anybody have any ideas on this?

That plug that was back there was likely the fog light harness that all jeeps have which is why it will only light up with the headlights on and the reason the key didn't match up.

that makes sense, but even the colors of the wires in the connector matched the connector i got from the junkyard

As for high idle. It's an easy mod with very little wiring involved. Can just do it yourself if you feel confident and do your research
