I had a front skid from a 99 on my 86. Zero problems. The bolt holes and nut serts were there.

The front skid plate is universal across all XJs, the gas tank may or may not have had a design change when they switched from metal gas tanks to plastic, if it mounts using the nut strips it probably is universal. There is a difference in aftermarket transfer case skid plates dependent on whether the Jeep has a 231 or a 242, I have no idea about stock transfer case skid.

If no one else is able to give you better info meet the seller and do a test fit before purchasing. I didn't mean the skid plate being metal or plastic, I meant the actual gas tank, my 2000 has the plastic tank, I believe yours has the metal gas tank. If you do meet the seller you will want to remove the trailer hitch if you have one and temporarily remove the exhaust hanger bracket, so nothing will be in the way. If you do need to remove anything remember to soak those bolts in penetrating oil for a few days prior to removing.

It probably will bolt up, but if not.....make it fit. My '98 has a gas tank skid off a '96 ZJ and a transfer case skid off of a '88 XJ.
