Default Factory Service Manual?

I have a 1988 Cherokee Sport.

I found a Factory service manual for a 1989, this is the closest year that I have found.

Are there any major differences that would prevent me from making use of the 1989 manual?

Thank You,
Byron

I know later years have small differences year over year. I bought a 99 fsm when I had a 99. Later, I bought a 98 and tried to use the 99 fsm to troubleshoot an electrical problem and it was completely useless for the 98. Connectors were different, colors were different, etc.

I think it's fine. 87-90 are very much alike. There ARE small changes between 87-88 and 89-90 but unlikely you will have an issue. The c-101 connector on the wiring harness was deleted in 89. Also (and I'm not sure here), some stuff in the drive-line and front axles. #of splines, might have changed, C clip or no. 99% will match.

If you can find 90 that would match better.

Based on my experience.......the '89 is the transition year from AMC to Chrysler.....mixed bag of changes.

Just be aware.

I'll take 90 for $1000 Alex. (I have two, one since 02) 91 is when things went South.

Ok, I bought a 1989 manual, waiting for delivery.

I was told that there was no manual for 1988, 1989 was the first year for Chrysler and there were very few changes from 88 to 89.

1987 manual is a Renault, supposedly not a very well written manual.
1988 was still the 87 Renault manual with a bunch of notes added to it.
