One of the POs caulked it shut thoroughly outside and inside.

Also has spring retracting sun screens (passenger side extended, driver's side retrated for pic).

I think this is factory installed since the header is molded around the power switch/control module.

Oh this is a 98 Sport XJ.

Many " manufacturer installed " sun/moon roofs are not really installed by the manufacturer, but installed by a contractor at the factory location.

Leaks? Yeah at some point they will all look due to poor maintenance by a previous owner. The seal needs to be 'treated' from time to time to keep it pliable and in shape. Many people never open the roof so it stays compressed and then when the do open it, it won't seal properly.

WINTER TIME is a bad time for roof leaks when there is snow/ice on the roof. When the snow.ice begins to melt it melts under the top layer and water becomes trapped between the snow/ice and roof and it gets forced in.

Symptom of this is the shade is wet when you close it or you see signs of water penetration on the headliner towards the rear of the roof.

I have a crank type on my 86 leaks horribly. But mostly because I am missing the the little black strip you see on other at the back of the glass. So when it closes it just rests on the seals and does not compress against it. Also leaving two 3/8" holes through the glass too.

So if anyone know where I can get some parts for the sunroof that would be great.

Thanks guys, this is awesome. Would you think that maybe all the sunroofs were a factory or contractor installed option? I know there are companies that make different versions of original models, like Rausch and Shelby and Saleen, so maybe one company made sunroofs and other parts for the XJ? Can anybody look for decals or original markings on the sunroof glass or other parts?

I have a 1990 XJ Limited with factory "moon roof". Same setup as the first few pictures in this thread. It was leaking at the hinges for many years until last year. I took the time to get up there and remove the glass, clean everything up, a little RTV on the screws and no more leaks! Just had to put in a little extra effort.

Local junk yard here has a 90 with a after market power sunroof that doesn't leak and looks factory besides control switches.

I'm just gonna throw this out there, Mopar/Chrystler doesn't make parts for these anymore. Tried to get a new seal and the guy said it's discontinued.

I'm kinda glad my 89 never came with a sunroof now, they all seem to leak after a while, haha.

They make up for it when it's 95+ degrees outside and using the A/C isn't an option.

What I was told is that the glass would come out and go into here and get tied down into the back to keep it safe, and nice looking.

I don't have a sun roof so I have no need for it
