Father & Son Project
My son and I are fixing up a 1988 Cherokee with a 4.0 for my sons's first vehicle. It was rough but comming along nicely. When we bought it, it did not have an aircleaner on it but a piece of duct tape over the suction port on the carb. Ran great other than oil spitting out of the valve cover vaccum lines. I picked up a used filter box and installed with new vacuum lines but when we start it it racces terriably. If we put a piece of tap over the corner of the carb where it sucks in, it purrs like a kitten. any sugestions, am I missing a gasket on the aircleaner hose or is the air cleaner box leaking air??? Any suggestions will help

Thats the engine
Not sure if you call it fuel injected or throttle body injected but there is a small port on the top of what looks like a Carb when you block off it runs perfect but when you put the air cleaner hose on which allows it to be open into the air hose it races something fierce. My son just bought a whole new vacuum hose kit and I dont believe we left anything disconnected.
