Default a few 87 xj questions.

  • Hi there,

anyone have a photo of the roof without the felt liner?

were all the models wired for speakers even if speakers weren't put in the hatch?
if so where does the speakers run from. I have yet to take apart my hatch but i have took off the top corner metal bracket on both sides to find no wire.

do any other taillight guards fit or could be made to fit without a torch?
as these guards seem pretty hard to find. ive been looking at land rover discovery ones...

anyone know of a bush guard that has similar mountings to fit on a jeep if it wasn't designed for a jeep (Land Rover, Toyota, etc)

Is waag the only one that makes brush guard with the bars that cover the headlights?
  • i pulled out the plastic panel for the drivers seat belt and i found that the belt is fully extended and wont wind. ideas?

    Thanks.

Are you considering removing the liner? It gets really loud inside the cab. Sorry, no pics, but you'll end up seeing a lightly painted color of your exterior and 3 crossbeams running from driver's to passenger's side. If you have a sagging headliner, there are adhesive remedies or you can find a new headliner at a junkyard (which I would recommend).

Yes, all XJ's should come prewired for any upgrades, though you may have to do some searching behind your stereo to find the rear speaker wires.

This page has some taillight replacements, not guards, that are bolt on for replacing the plastic stock ones. Otherwise I have not seen guards that bolt on without some modification.

If you measure the bumper mount widths and get some geometries down for the Cherokee, you can probably find a brush guard that will fit with a little modification. You may end up bending or using spacers to accomodate the brush guard for a different vehicle, but I've seen it done.

Not sure on the brushguards that do not cover headlights

Take the cover off the base of the seatbelt and check the spring and pauls that allow it to retract and lock when needed. If these are damaged, replace them. If you choose to fix it yourself that is at your own risk, but you can probably wind the spring tighter so that it has some more pull to it.

i appreciate your feedback.

no i dont really have an interested in taking out the headliner. I just wanted to see what sort of brackets are in the roof and where the crossbeams would be. (to attach an overheads console, sound bar, extra light, etc)

that site you sent me has some excellent products. some ive never seen before. thanks.

maybe it was a typo but im looking for a bumper with the lights protected by bars. like so:

the toyota version of this looks very similar and i see it more frequently around here.

thanks again.
