Default few ?'s

I have a 95 Cherokee that is 100% stock with a 8.25 rear end. I still want a good locker but I have never installed gears or a locker before. With out pulling the cover is there anyway I can tell what my spline count is? Would a Aussie Locker be a good choice? How hard is it to install? My plans with my XJ is to lift it about 4.5 inches with 31/33's Super Swampers and use it as a 'fun' rig, 85% offroad, but driving to the trails. As soon as I get most of this done I will be going to Moab to try it out on some big boy trails. Or would it be better to lock up the front? Also I was told I 'might' have to do a SYE kit, how hard is it to do? I have a lot of tools to do almost anything. I know there is a lot of questions in here but I also know there are people in here that have done it all. Thanks in advance.

chances are since its a 95 you have a 27 spline. the 29s didnt go into any models before 96. on the 96s it could be either or, but mostly 29s. anything 97 up with an 8.25 in it is a 29. if you do need an sye, which you might not because our earlier model jeeps respond pretty well to lifts, then which kind will you do a hack n tap or like a porc style. the skill required depends on what youre putting in. either way tho im sure youll be fine. there are plenty of write ups and threads that can help you here no matter what youre doing...
