Default Fitting a smaller oil filter

Hi, sorry if this is a bit of a novice question, but just wanted to check im not about to do something really stupid.

About to do an oil change and noticed the new oil filter i bought is much smaller than the old one- its not as wide and also shorter.

However the nut size is the same (3/4") and so is the gasket.

Bad idea to fit it?

Btw, 1993 jeep xj, 2.5L

Cheers, matt.

Old one may have been oversized for no good reason.

If the old one is real close to hitting a part of the body/frame, it was wrong.

If you pick a Napa gold, (which is a Wix), you can feel confident you have a good filter. Fram, and some others are inferior.

Microgard, O'Reilly's house brand is made by WIX. Probably not up to par as NAPA Gold but seems serviceable. I bought several when they first switch.
