Flashing Odometer

Flashing Odometer
Like the title says, my odometer flashes constantly. I took it to my local dealer and he 'thinks' the cause is there is not enough juice in my battery.
I live in the Great White North and it always starts with no cranking issues in the winter, so I'm reluctant to purchase an replacement battery.
Anyone else have this issue?
Thx.

Yeah, probably not the battery. Many auto parts stores will test the battery for free (not 100% reliable, but it's free). Poor connections on the back of the dash are common. What year Cherokee you have?

Ah, ignore my previous post as that was for the earlier XJs. You have a KL 2014+Cherokee. The best place to ask would be over on https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f87/
Yes, the newer KLs are sensitive to weak batteries and poor battery connections, but that usually manifests as strange errors popping up about 4wd unavailable, steering or parking brake errors, etc. My 2014 started crashing the body control computer and the door locks and wipers stopped working.

On the 2014+ Cherokees and Grand Cherokees., a flashing odometer usually indicates indicates a communication problem, or that the various computer modules are mismatched. This can also be triggered by swapping out the radio too. The usual fix for that is called a "proxy alignment", which needs to be done by a dealer.
The newer Jeeps are also prone to show odd behavior if the battery is weak, or has poor battery connections. In that case, the voltage drops low enough while cranking that the various computers can crash. Typically with that issue, you'll get odd error messages like 4wd unavailable, steering system error, or you can't turn the wipers on or off, turn signals don't work, etc. Some like the 4wd or steering reboot with key on/off, but the body computer needs the battery disconnected or the fuse pulled to reset it.
