You cant really say which sounds better........everyone has a different point of view and how they hear things. For me i chose the 40 because i thought it was lower and louder than the 44. Go onto YOUTUBE and listen to some XJ's with the 40 and 44 and whatever other muffler you like. Its all about personal preference
