I bought my jeep with the flowmaster already on it, and upgraded the piping to 2.5" from the collector to the cat, because it was 2.5" after the cat. I was just wondering how to tell what series my flowmaster was?

(I think this might help) on my jeep I had a 2.5"magnaflow high flow cat direct to a upsidedown 2.5" cherry bomb glasspack and cut down, I promess you its the loudest combination I have herd... if its to loud you can always put the glasspack correctly and it will calm down a bit

just a quick question. it is my understanding that the 4.0 was designed to keep the cat on and if pulled it loses a lot of the torque that it produces. is this true?

i recently lost my exhaust on a trail run, and had to drive home without it from the cat back.
almost zero torque, it was a pita to drive, and the most annoyingly loud exhaust known, it went right back on the next morning.
and keep the cat and muffler, even if you want it loud, all you will do is **** off the treehuggers trying to shut down our sport.

true, but on most older vehicles the cat doesnt do anything anymore because the innerds are all blown out. so it's just there for looks. And i got 80 bucks for mine at the scrap yard

Either way just get the muffler of your choice, it won't be dissapointing. If you want it loud, go with magnaflow! If you wan't a deep tone, go with Flowmaster!

Loud Exhaust
I just pulled the entire stock exhaust from my XJ from the flange before the cat back. Replaced it with 2.5" Autozone exhaust pipe with a Red Hot 24" glasspack muffler. If you want loud this is it!! Personally, I think it is too loud. Much louder that i thought it would be. I plan on running it long enough to please the wife, before I tell her it needs replaced from trail damage or something, then I plan on a Flowmaster offroad series. As far as power, I have 4.88s w/ 33" tires so torque is readily available, and it seems even better with the mod to the exhaust! PEACE OUT JEEPERS!!!
