Fob unlocks lift gate too ??
Just bought my 99 Cherokee Sport with a non-working door entry fob. New fob batteries did not help. Trying to decide how much $ and effort I want to invest in getting it to work. Will a working fob lock/unlock the lift gate?
Thanks for the help,
Rusty

My 99 did not come with a fob and I didn't even know it had remote entry till I got a build sheet. When I bought a new fob and had the dealer reprogram it everything worked as it should all 4 drs. and lift gate.

I'll call the dealer today. Maybe the remote that came with it just needs reprogrammed like my Genie garage door opener did. If not, I think I found where I can buy a new one for $70 and a used one for $30. For me it's all about being able to unlock the rear gate with out the key. Even the switch that unlocks all the doors from the drivers door panel, won't unlock the back. Either it was designed that way or I have something not working correctly there too.

Not to suggest there may be a problem with your tailgate but . . . . there may be a problem with your tailgate. I have a 99 XJ and it is the mechanism inside that literally falls apart. The latch disconnects from the acuator bar. . .

I went to the dealer today and was told that the fob was putting out a signal and they could attempt to re-program it for $30.00. Didn't work. Said they could order a new fob for $100.00. I asked if they would waive the $30 if I ordered the fob and they said ok. Hopefully it's not the receiver, where ever that thing is located.... But hey, this is progress and I appreciate everyone's help!
Thanks,
Rusty

Was afraid of that... So the remote switch at the door panel is suppose to also unlock the hatch. Now I think you are saying that so should the key fob, but your suggesting that a working key fob still won't work if the mechanism has fallen apart. Makes sense...

FYI the receiver is located under the front dome light and I think that was about what I paid for mine, but all worked so not a problem.

Next you need to remove rear hatch inside panel. Then see if the electric solenoid is getting power when the switch is hit. Only takes about 10 minutes to remove it.

Thanks for the receiver location Fred. Chrysler Dealer called and said the fob was in. All though the old fob was transmitting, they still thought it was defective, so today I took the Jeep in so they could program this new one and the new fob apparently only worked from inside the vehicle.... Now I have a new appointment next week so they can locate and check the Receiver. I think I"ll pop that dome light and have a look myself.
