My XJ shifts sorta sloppy, tranny doesnt slip, but doesnt feel crisp either, the shift points are just "there". Will this adjustment cure this issue?

New guy here. I did this to my 2000 XJ Limited (head not cracked BTW). This was a big improvement. Thank you. JB

awesome tip to try,.
I tried this on my 96 cherokee country. Seemed to change a little. Does shift more like a caddy now. Want more time to see if it changes some issues i had. Around 50 mph I would have it guessing what gear it wanted. So far so good. Either way it is nice to have it adjusted the way it should be and I would say is an improvement.
thanks for the help,
Lee

That is how I did it and don't have any complaints at all, it was a slight/ to moderate improvement.
Thanks again,
Lee

I stumbled upon this yesterday and had to try. wasn't sure which way to try since there are two discussed here. first I pushed the conduit all the way in released the button. went WOT. drove it and it seemed to jump hard on the shifts. so next I held button while going WOT and it drops in to gear a little rough but better than it first was and the shifts are amazing. you can't feel it shift at all. great simple fix. also it smoothed out my idle which had a rough spot in it before.

I don't know what WOT means, sorry for the dumbness.
But with all the gm's in the past.
I used to just hold the button, and have someone depress the pedal.
I can't remember if I let the button go first, or they let the pedal go first. Forgot that part. But it does work, when the cable ends up streched, and used.

you need two people one to hold the the release and one to push in the pedal. you push the release in and hold then push your cable all the way in then have the person inside push the pedal as far as it will go and hold. then you let go of the release and your done.

Just did this, fixed problems I have been puzzling about for a while, such as transmission shifting between overdrive and third gear just cruising around town the problem is now been solved. the overall shipping performance has improved dramatically it's like a different vehicle now. make sure you hold the button down when you're going wot or this fix will not work properly, you will have hard, imprecise shifts.
