Just did this,and Im impressed.
Everyone needs to do this for their own good.I only had 5 bucks in the tank and I went 20 or so miles before I ended up going home for fear of running out.I really think Im getting the mpg Im supposed to now.
Shifts incredibly smooth and better throttle response without a doubt.
Somebody sticky this

I did this wrong the first time (followed the OP's instructions) ...which made my particular problem worse (test drive x 2).
Came back, read further along in the thread until I came to Freegdr's comment (#91), and kept reading until I read your confirmation of his comment ...went back out to the XJ and went through the corrected adjustment procedure ...went out for another test drive ...
...and wow. Shifted like butter. Stayed on the curve the entire grade up the hill (even went to a steeper hill, and dittos).
Best minor adjustment fix evah!
...thanks to DieselD for bringing this thread to my attention.

Welp, I PB blasted the crap out of mine, and tried it after I went for a drive and that button still does not want to budge.
Is it a solid button or what? What are the chances of it breaking if I give it a good wack with a fine-pointed smacking instrument? All of this hype is making me impatient to try this.

If you're not having trouble of any kind with your trans shifting or staying in lockup etc, I'd leave it alone.
It is definitely not a solid piece. There's a button there. I'd be careful hitting it with something. I mean, it is plastic.

I did this a while ago, but instead of opening the TB I sat in the Jeep and mashed the pedal to the floor. It had some resistance, then kind of clicked an it worked great.
Anyway, a few months later it was getting worse, so I've just done it again, but did it properly holding the button down whilst I open the TB.
It makes such a massive difference! I swear it feels faster now too - maybe my throttle opening was limited before??

...but what has really impressed me was the over 2mpg increase we had at the pump on only a half tank at most usage fill-up. I measure my mpg at every fill-up (and I only fill-up, so "always" ...I never change my driving habits, either lol), and I'm always aware of what's going on there.
The 'kee was down in the mid-13-to-low-14mpg range, and that 1/2 tank fill-up was 16.5mpg. Whoo-hoo!
...I expect that to improve the next time at the pump, as that entire tank will have been with the new adjustment: we'll see lol.

Let me try to clarify/verify what I did.
* Push button
* Push in conduit till it stops
* Go WOT
* Release button
* Release WOT
Is that correct?
