Front Axle Question
Can someone tell me the difference in these axles? The top axle in the picture is from My 90 xj. The bottom axle is out of my 88 xj. The 90 came with a 242 TC, the 88 came with a 231 TC. They obviously won't interchange. Can you tell by the shafts what front differential each came from?

I'm assuming the top with the 27-spline has u-joint ears on the other end. Not knowing the length it would be either the drivers side shaft from either year or the passenger side from the 90 with the 242 (ie no axle disconnect). The bottom shaft looks like a passenger side shaft from the 88 that has the vacuum actuated disconnect.

Thanks Lawsoncl, I'm going to miss my 88, just seems like everything was beefier compared to the 90. Though I'm sure it'll be fine when I get through with it.

It's not beefier. Just had a different style axle in front due to the transfer case it used.
