Front Axle seal question
I recently had the front axles out to put in new ball joints. After reassembly, I'm now leaking diff fluid from the passenger side of the axle. How do I and how hard is it to replace that seal?

There's a lot of write ups here. but basically it's pulling both shafts, the carrier, and making sure you have a bunch of socket extensions.

Does your 91 have the vac disconnect front axle. If so the seal for passenger side is in the disco pod. You have to pull your front passenger axle and open the disco cover. The seal is tapped into the disco pod from the passenger side of the axle. The new seal can be pulled into place with long threaded rod thru big washer and nut. A slide hammer helps or long threaded rod and do up a nut on the outer axle side to pull the new seal in. Make sure your axle tube is clean prior to sticking the axle back in. I use my shop vac to help clean out the tubes.
If you are solid and non disco, the seal is all the way in to the differential as stated above. When you take things apart lay parts out in order, make note, sketch, mark parts. Whatever works for you to help all go back in order.

It seems that it's more than just "some" leaking. I'll let it sit tonight but I am supposed to be returning to school tomorrow.

I've been nursing mine for a couple months now. Been putting 85-140 in to try and slow it down. I'll be doing them soon. If one is torn, it'll be a bit of a job to change it.

See I put 85-140 in to begin with cause I have the tow package and that's what they recommend. I'm still leaking a good amount. I guess ill just have to let it sit til I can get time to fix it.

It's never been a question if I can or can't...I can do just about everything that would need to be done anywhere on a vehicle. It was just a general question more about what I should look out for and if there are any useful tips/tricks

didnt end up doing it. seems that bobvalli was correct is saying to wait. my plan was to baby it til i could get back home from school so I started with that and then noticed that the leak had stopped and the diff is full. but, now i get to replace the bearings around the pinion gear in the d35. seems running the diff a-ground and shoving dirt into the pinion seal and past it likes to chew up bearings...who knew?
