I'm moving differentials from a 98 Cherokee XJ. I wanted to just make sure what the ratio was in the rear end I lifted one tire and counted rotations of the drive shaft to the tire. 8 ball parked at 3 and 1/2 to 1 so the ratio there is the standard 3.54. I should probably add that this 98 has been a working vehicle with 4x4 working fine. The rear differential has already been transferred to the recipient and is now working fine. We've decided not to transfer the entire differential for the front end opting to just transfer the pig and set it up since they are both Dana 30s. I pulled the front drive shaft out of the 98 and for some reason other decided to count the ratio in the front end marking the tire and the yoke. To my surprise it works out to be about 2.5 to 1. I haven't pulled the cover yet to count the actual teeth but what am I missing? this just doesn't add up as the front ratio should be the same as the back right? Unless there's some type of reduction in the 4x4 only for just the front axle?

Pull the cover. Auto trans equipped are 3.55 and manual trans are 3.07. FWIW
