Leave it on. I took mine off my 72 commando for the summer of 80. To be able to just use 2 wheel low range and it worked really good. Then I got stuck. Lessened leared.

You will not see an increase that could be measured.

Look again. Try spinning the front drive shaft with both front wheels on the ground and the transfer case in 2WD.
