Default front end noise

i just bought a 2000 cherokee sport, bone stock. 100,000 miles on it. when i bought it i put it in 4 fulltime 4 parttime and 4 low and everything was fine. i put it in 4 fulltime the other day it snowed and drove around a while and started to hear a popping noise when turning. i took it off 4wd and put in 2wd and the noise slowly started to go away till it was gone. i can also feel it binding in the steering wheel too. i checked the tie rods and balljoints they are all good track bar is also solid. can it be a u-joint? i checked the u-joints and got no play in them. any info on my problem would be great.

That sounds like a U-Joint to me.

Which T-case, 242? If you have the 242, then some minor binding in full-time is not uncommon, particularly when on pavement. Otherwise, u-joint.

The 242 T-case is sometimes slow to release from 4FT. You could also have bad u-joints. Are your tires the same size, are they wearing evenly. 242 equipt Rigs are VERY sensitive to tires, they must be they same size, diameter and width, all 4 corners, or the TC will get bound up. Also check the shifter linkage adjustment. When you shift out of 4FT always do it coasting, or back-up a short distance to release the TC, you will here a click, under your butt.
