I had a similar noise on my '95 that turned out to be loose heat shield around cat. converter. It became lots louder when I put into gear and the engine came under a little load. I had this happen to me on another vehicle so that's the first place I looked. I fixed by just pulling off the rest of the shield. I just got to make sure I don't park in any high grass now!!

A+++
I have chased this issue for 2 years. Light tingy sound going over the slightest bumps. Stops when I barely press the brake. Sounds like the ting sound of tapping on the brake dust cover with a set of keys, but everything is tight.
I explored again yesterday with both wheels off. I have tried the wheel pull and rock test on the bearings before. Perfectly tight. But, there was a slight movement in the rotation and a ever so light clunk. Pulled the bearing hub assembly out and BAM. Clicking when I turn it. Pulled the left side off and found a 1/8" movement going in and out. Rocking the wheel on top and bottom did not reveal this issue. Small amount of play. Replayed both hubs for $63 each and to my complete suprise the sound is gone, the steering wheel tightened up and the assumed tire out of balance vibration stopped.
I guess the slight movement vibrated up into the brake dust cover plates and caused that tingy sound to reverberate just right. The braking stabilized the axle in the bearing and stopped the vibration.
Vandelden21... you may want to yank one out and see if thats your issue as well. Thank you all for the responses to Vandelden, it helped me just get down and dig in. I love my Jeep again

loose steering
I took my 02 jeep in for the steering being loose down the road. They have tried replacing many parts and then doing a few front end alignments each time with no avail. I do run handcock tires on it. 235 75 r16s when going 60 and faster on the hwy if I step on the gas it pulls to the left if I touch the breaks it pulls right. would new bearings and hubs help .

Maybe This
I had that with a brake pad that would not stay tight, improper mounting hole in caliper and it would work ok but rattle.
