Sometimes you can see a little in there through the crack with the window down.(and a really good light.) Assuming the outside handle moves easily probably the link/rod came undone. There's probably Utube on how to remove the interior panel to access it.
A side note, with spray chain and cable lube a guy can lube most of what is in there through that crack with the window down. Maybe a bit messy but cleans up......

My Jeep has two doors that are just about what you describe. If you remove
the rubber dust seal on the inside of the door, you can see what happens when
you push the button in. It pushes a tiny pin against a bumper that moves the
latch. On mine, the pins are worn down so the bumper doesn't move enough
to trip the latch. I have seen replacement door handles for $25 to $35, which
I'll getting resigned to buy unless some wonderful poster to this thread comes
up with a fix.

Here are instructions on how to remove the panel. You can ignore the part about pulling off manual door cranks since I'm assuming that your are electric. After you've done this you will cut the protective film off the door. Cut so that you can tape the cut when reassembling.
You can photograph the internals around the external door handle and post them here for more help. Hopefully, a rod is out of a hole.
