OR do you cut across the stud/bolt itself? Or both?
I cut vertically till I hit the body and then across. It was a little messy with rust dust but it did the trick. It's not neurosurgery....it's a 2001 Cherokee.

If your replacing shocks what do you care what happens to this current one? Tear the SOB up!

Cut between the sheet metal and the bottom of the bolt your truing to remove.

Any time I've had to work this hard to remove a nut I usually end up twisting and breaking the stud itself. I'm surprised you haven't yet. Eat some wheaties and give her hell!

14 hrs set aside to replace shocks. Turn in your Man Card. I replaced my lift in 3hrs with several beer breaks. Hell I am sure I have less then 14hrs worth wrench time into my Xj. Between installing sliders, gas tank skid, front winch bumper/ winch , rear locker, offroad lights , header panel , eletric fan, ps pump , headlights , headlight harness.......

I also did 90% of that in an apartments parking lot with hand tools and a cordless drill

Yup, it's THAT hard, no matter what a few braggart blowhards on some car forum say. That's why dealers charge $500 to do this job, and have a 3 week waiting list. Yea, figure out why they can do that. Supply/demand. It's not rocket science.

Ok, there's no way the bolt is coming off without me throwing my back out or breaking my wrist.

STAGE 2
I managed to snake an extension cord from my neighbor. Got a dremel also.
I put the crispy little wheel on the bit and then went to cut this thing off.

Here is the next problem. I can not get the dremel in there. There is no room to maneuver.
In the photo, that is as upright as the dremel will go.
On the useless troll riddled POS Naxja forum, I was told to cut the bolt straight across. But, I can not get the dremel horizontal.

I have this. Is it too big?
Rotary Tool 40 Pc 1.2A Master Mechanic 139783 - Amazon.com Rotary Tool 40 Pc 1.2A Master Mechanic 139783 - Amazon.com

If not, can someone tell me EXACTLY where to cut with my dremel?
Above in the hood? Or below in the wheel well?
Do I cut the actual shock in half? Is this brittle cutting wheel strong enough to do that?

My Dremel came with a 90* angle attachment. That could help, see if your neighbor has it. Seems to me that attacking it vertically would be easier though..
