What is your caster angle? The reason why they include longer uppers is to keep your caster angle in spec.

MY point of pointing out that your bumpstops are touching is.. what do you expect to happen at full compression.... the coils to stack? Also If you look your upper bumpstop is not centered on your lower bump... that might have something to do with the bowing.

PingPong i completely agree with you. the coils will do what they want, but i actually have had pretty good luck with mine staying compressed under my jeep and i dont have bumpstops. i am also not worried about the body of mine though. it only rubs i tiny little bit with my 31's on there now, but when i go to 33's or 35 i am goin to cut the **** out of my fenders. its just a trail rig.... 4.5" RE and 2" BB

that is the only reason i was saying what i was because i am bigger than just the 4.5" and i dont have that problem.. interesting......

thats my PO

PingPong, I was not "blaming" the manufacturer Rubicon, I was asking them for tech advice with what I think is a problem. After a discussion and review of photo's we both agreed the LCA are too short. What I was disappointed in was they would not offer me some sort of discount on adjustable arms or even a deal on stepping up to a long arm kit in an effort to correct the issue and satisfy a loyal customer.

The upper bump stop is OEM. The photo just hides the rubber bumper as it is being push off to the front by canted spring perch. The lower has been modified as RE instructions as gmssween stated. We then added two "drilled" hockey pucks to further limit up-travel. We did add 3/4" spacers, again RE, in an attempt to level out after upgrading from a AAL to a full spring pack (RE) at their recommendation.

I am not sure what you mean about "overflexing" and how the spring should compress. While new to XJ's, my experience has never seen a coil spring bow out like this without having something seriously misaligned. By bowing outward, the spring actually decreases the compression rating as it reaches full compression. I would not "expect" this from a properly installed kit.

I greatly appreciate all the experienced advice received in this forum. I was seeking information on the best way to correct the problem. I am surprised that more XJ's have not had the issue.

I was hoping some one might have tried to install a wedge shaped shim on the lower spring perch to get the upper and lower perches parallel. I think this would correct the issue without the expense of buying adjustable LCA.

If the shim is a bad idea, then I would ask who makes the best adjustable LCA.

Center of bolt hole to center od bolt hole.

Phil,

I reread the complete post, and it did seem like you were bashing RE a lil, "for not sharing your pain, and helping correct the problem". I have been wheeling MJ's and Xj's for a couple of yrs now, and it is very rare for coils to compress in a straight line. Especailly when caster angles (angle of perch) and short arm lifts are involved.

Keep in mind axles travel in an arc. As your axle travels up... the upper link is not always traveling parrallel to the lowers, so this pushes the top of the axle out, or pulls it in depending on the length of the upper arm.

Drop brackets kinda deal with this issue cause the uppers and lowers are more parrallel then in short arm accomplished lifts. Long arms change all this, and you will see many LA kits with the same problem you are experiencing. Colis will bow in the area of least resistance especially if the upper bumpstop and lower bumpstop are not centered on each other at full compression.

I hope this makes sense. I am just a redneck trying to explain some technical crap that I dont totaly understand myself.
