Default "frozen" ignition switch

ok guys, need some help (bet you never heard that one before) on my ignition. i have a new to me 1988 manche, 4.0, 5 speed, tilt column. i have read umpteen posts on this and still not sure where to start. i have a cast on my left hand up to my elbow so i would like to know opinions on most likely things to check because its hard to get under the dash with only one hand. i was doing alot of bouncing around on trails looking at some mountain property and stopped to hike a bit. when i went to leave i turned the key and nothing. turned the key again and nothing. turned key the third time and it stuck in the on position and no crank. had power to everything but now can't turn key off. finally had to take a screwdriver to the starter solenoid and it fired right up and i drove it 3 hours home. got home and key still won't turn off. tried messing with tilt, steering, and hammer tap to key and messing with the lock lever. finally put it in gear and let the clutch out to kill it. opinions?

Bad ignition switch. Is the key also stuck in it? Sounds like you just need to get a new one. It happens from time to time on any car.

Yeah, replace the lock cylinder and ignition switch. A friend of mine just had that problem on her XJ in the parking lot after school today and I told her the same thing.

I don't mean to steal this, but would replacing this give me my acc position back?

I'm pretty cheap, usually I don't replace parts that are working. Never know if the replacement is inferior to the existing anyway! Can he just insert a pin, turn the key, and extract the cylinder? I think it comes out easy when you have the key. Then the rod there goes down to your switch, which might be fine. Yours Btw, has an adjustment...slides up and down, unlike 91? on......

Just looked at mine, no hole for pushing in a pin...
