Fuel gauge has incorrect reading
I'm new to this forum but have been working on cars for a long time. I've got a 99 Cherokee and when I first bought it, the gas gauge would stay on dead empty every once in a while. I could turn off the key and turn it back on and it work again. Lately it hasn't been working at all. On a full tank it says I have half. When it get down to about 3/4 it's says empty and never really moves. I've heard a lot about fuel level sensors going out and causing this and my cost through a jeep dealer is about $115. Has anyone had a cluster go out and cause this problem or know what all is involved it replacing it and having the milage correct? I appreciate all responses.
