Glad to hear you got all that done - and the new pump is working. I was thinking it would end up being the pump, I just couldn't figure out a way to test for a bad pump that would make any sense. I think the extra think gasket included with the pump is just for an alternate application. I have a collection of three of those now. You're a little more spry than you let on. Swapping out that fuel pump is no easy task.

Default Starting issue

Hi, over the last week. I've been waiting for a new lock ring for the field pump.I finally put a brand new fuel pump. Replacing the 1 year old brand new feel pumped and only had maybe an hour of time on it. I had hooked it up before. I installed it and I heard it prime, assuming that it was working. of course, I did this after I replaced a fusible link and I also replace the starter relay and also the fuel pump relay. . last year. I replaced all the injector's fuel regulator fuel filsir. And just about every sensor including the crank position sensor. I just also replace the map sensor. Also I took apart the ground at the engine block and cleaned everything and repaired one skinny black & white wire with a new connector and put them all back together and crank down. And everything seems to be connected and good there.

So I go to the vehicle and start it for the first time and it will not start. it's getting no fuel. I go ahead and bleed off-air pressure at the fuel Rail but I get no fuel. It sounds like the fuel pump is kicking on and you can hear It. Go on for about a couple seconds. you can also hear the relay under the hood click.

I am not a electrical person and amount of ideas so I don't know if anybody has any suggestions?

Default Fuel pump

I put a new fuel pump in pulled it out today. Checked it and make sure that there was no plugs in the return. ran it outside the tank and ran it inside the tank. And no fuel will come out. But the pump runs when you crack it. I had the rear of the jeep jacked up about 6to8 inches. I stuck my hand in the fuel tank. And there are baffles about and inch or inch And a half above the bottom of the tank and fuel is about an eighth above that. Is this enough fuel for the pump to run? There is absolutely no fuel or spitting coming out of the outlet. I ran the pump with no hoses on it. This is the second new pump that's been in it. And the first pump worked fine until I had that little burn out on the starter relay which the whole relay is now replaced and a new fusible link has been put in. So in my opinion, I think both pumps are working correctly. But could there be a Prime Minister? Tomorrow I'm gonna add about 2 gallons of fuel into the tank. And see if I run the pump without any in or outlines and see if it spits out. Any suggestions?

It took 3 pumps to get the one that worked in mine. The first one pumped fuel but didn't have any level indication. The second made sound but didn't pump fuel (like what you're describing). The third pump moved fuel and gave tank level. You didn't say if your fuel gage was still pegged or not.

Fuel gauge is not pegged. Shows full but I know the tank is low. Does not move when key Is turned.

Is it a fuel pickup issue? Minimum amount in tank or do I have a larger tank?

I think I know the problem. It is the idiot who installed the fuel pump
I think I had the pump in wrong. I never really knew, but guessed. I thought the inlet was a straw and had the elbow in sideways with the screen down. I assume this was the same situation as my last pump (new pump). So when I worked on the windows (and the tank being about an eighth full) I left the key on to work the windows as I put all new tracks and seals in. I might of left it in the full on and ran that pump and ran it dry. That probably is why it stopped priming. So last night I could not get fuel to spew out because the strainer was barely touching the fuel. I need to turn 90 degrees and lay the strainer flat at the bottom. I did not know this and had a hard time visualizing it. Thought about it all night and saw a video and realized I had it wrong. I will update you later today.

I wanted to update and say I had the fuel pump in wrong. I think I had the last one in wrong. The new one is working, the jeep in running and the gauge works most of the time. Some movement, such as stopping it will peg 90 degrees but later will show what appears to be accurate.

I did install a new resistor. When I started for the first time since fixing the pump and all the wiring, the new resistor was smoking. I never paid attention that the resistor gets hot. So the new one was open on the back and I think the coil got hot and was breaking in (first time getting hot) so it was smoking a little. I got nervous and replaced it with the old one which was basically new. It was enclosed. So it got hot but no smoke. So the whole issue was pump and me burning the pump up with extended key on and the pump probably dry.

I have driven it a few shot hops and it seems to be working for now, including the gauge. Going to put a new muffler, CAT and tail pipe on and going to get smogged. I have to redo the pipe because it is now hitting the cross member and rattles against it. The transmission mount hanger is perfect, so either things shifted during replacing the transmission mount, or reinstalling the cross member or things moved when I redid the engine mount.

I think I will call it here. Thank you all for your help.

My exhaust started rattling after I replaced the transmission mount as well. Glad to hear it is all working for you now. Let the group know how the emissions test goes for you.
