Fuel Pump Assembly Replacement - WARNING!
#16
With every airtex I have installed have never had a problem with pump failure it's always gauge failure. I've had check valve failure and was replaced under warranty. Doesn't mean it wont fail but ill take my chances, a fuel pump failure is the least of my worries.

^^^Aside from all the negative experiences and comments from members here that have tried Airtex, even the parts stores that I went to trying to find a pump with the sending unit won't recommend Airtex...
After unwittingly buying Airtex (labeled as "Carter") and trying to get it to fit correctly I would not recommend them. Never got to see if it would actually work, as it would not physically seat in the tank properly.

I ordered my delphi DHP10148 fuel pump & sending unit from autozone.com. I ordered it on 7/3/14 (Thursday) and it is FINALLY being marked shipped via fedex today 7/6/14. I ordered online to save some cash, it was originally 103, I paid 88 w/free shipping. I wish autozone was as fast as rock auto but they are so much slower. I hope I don't have a relabled airtex too but I am confident I do, I bought a new fuel filter from autozone as well to honor my lifetime warranty which I will likely need.

I finally got my pump 7/9/14. Autozone shows 3-5 days shipping free but it took 6. I put it in this morning, my lock ring was in ruff condition. I just checked autozone and they are only 4.99... It was a bad idea not replacing my rusty old one. I tried to use the old o ring to ensure the worn out ring wouldn't break but I failed and my price will be doing the job over again, thankfully it only takes about 1 hour and a shower afterwards. I am buying some beer for the next time though.
But here's the pictures of my "Delphi" fuel pump assembly. It appears to be airtex but I am not sure, the plug harness says delphi. The pump assembly I removed was the original bosch.
I also took some pictures of the inside of my fuel tank with my cell phone.
It works great, fuel gauge was tested before I installed it, my 4.0 fires up first try every time. Now when I cycle the key I can hear the pump build up pressure, 3rd key turn I can hear the pump bog down a little (full pressure) which the old pump never did.

I think that black circle is the end of the "rubber" cone that goes on the end of the fuel return line. A perfect install would be getting the return line into that little hole!
Judging from the wear, either I don't have one or I missed it. My gauge often sticks on 1/4. After three installs, always the same.

Comanche -
Your Delphi is a rebranded Airtex (E7006 is their part number on the actual pump).
Hope it works out for you, let us know if you run into any problems (failure) down the road.

Problem down the road happened about a week or so later.
I installed my airtex pump/sender from autozone labeled "Delphi"
This is everyone's "Second Warning*
If your fuel pump sender assembly comes with terminals that cross the sending frame, bend them away from it to save you from the problem I had. The positive wire on my fuel pump shorted to the sending unit frame. I might be partially to blame but I reviewed pictures that shows it brand new out of the box and very close to the frame.
stock pump/sender wires for the pump go straight up from the pump.
The aftermarket had both the red/black wires laying 90 degrees across the top of the pump, which looked normal to me, but under closer inspection the red terminal was too close to the sending unit frame and shorting.

You know over the last year or two airtex has totally revamped their production standards and are now backed by a lifetime guarantee. I bought mine from autozone back in january it was a direct instal. Fixed my sending unit and check valve problem and isnt half as noisy as people say. I understand that airtex was once a crappy brand but for the money and a lifetime warranty you cant go wrong.

well I would assume not, but I have access to a trailer, and it literally takes an hour tops to drop the tank. and if you cant drop a tank and replace a fuel pump, you need a new ride, cause with a jeep your going to have to know how to turn a wrench....

Maybe he can come change my airtex because the fuel gauge is now reading empty and I have 50 miles on a full tank.
Now I have to clean all the mud off and call autozone or go to autozone in person to exchange it, buy a new fuel filter because they won't honor the warranty without a new fuel filter purchase and then do this job all over again.

I can stick my finger down my throat until I puke too, but that doesn't mean I'm deliberately going to eat bad chicken.
