Bingo.
A couple of years ago I dropped a tank to replace a pump in a parking lot, using only tools bought at the local home center.
I'm not volunteering to do that again by buying a pump with a bad reputation.
If they've cleaned up their act, great. That's good news.
I'll wait and see. "Guinea pig" is not in my job description.

Hey you never know. My "Carter" assembly, that was showing empty with the light on from install, just randomly started registering fuel levels the other day. Granted with a full tank it shows a quarter tank from full, but hey its a start. The needle even goes down with the level!
But seriously. ..I'm still counting miles.

Any updates on those airtex pump assemblies? I need a new pump eventually and since it looks like there is no other company making them, airtex seems to be in my future.

Look at the electrical wiring in the product pictures. The earlier model stock pumps had blade terminals, so if you see one with a threaded post and a nut and some custom wire pieces, its probably a universal pump, and definitely will not be serviceable with stock parts. I avoid those.
The last one I bought for my 91 was a Delphi, it was actually a relabeled Carter, but at least it had the right terminals.
Part-outs are good sources of spare pumps and sender assemblies

Renix pump isn't inside the tank ???
Educate me here
The in tank fuel pump is the biggest weakness in my GMC Suburban (40 gallon tank ). I've only had the pump itself fail once (had a shop change it the first time) but the coupling line inside the tank has blown off twice now and have dropped the tank twice myself to fix it. Last time I used some small smooth wire to hold the pump up towards the sending unit/fuel line so that the hose clamps weren't holding the entire load. Also had to wire the float back on so now miraculously the gauge is working for the first time in years.
It pisses me off to have an otherwise strong vehicle depending on a piece of crap dangling inside the gas tank

I don't have hard data for this, but I was told by an O'Reilly's manager that several years back, around 2011, a different company bought Airtex. O'Reilly's sent all their in stock Airtex pumps back to the new owners at the new owners' request.
The pumps they have been getting are much better in quality now. There are no old stock pumps on the shelves, and haven't been for at least 2-3 years now.
Apparently the "new" company is making them for most everyone else. Conversely, I have heard that Delphi is having problems and not to buy theirs.

I think it was Precision that repackaged the Airtex pumps. Same crap - different brand name.
I don't trust these O'Reilly pukes as far as I can throw them. They have the POS Hayden fan clutches repackaged under the brand name "Murray". The box says Murray so I had the counter puke pull the clutch out and it still had the Hayden sticker on it. The puke said Murray bought Hayden and said they haven't caught up with the repackaging yet.

I mentioned in conversation just the other day that I felt that O'Reilly's parts quality had gone down the last couple of years.
I literally just got through replacing the original starter on my daughter's '06 Grand Cherokee 3.7 a few minutes ago.
I ended up ordering a brand new not reman starter from Jeep/MOPAR instead of buying a reman from OR. The OR reman had a lifetime guarantee on it, but I didn't really want to change out another one in my lifetime.
The original one lasted 155K miles, so that's pretty good. Solenoid was getting funky on it. Didn't always actuate starter.

But then all I have to worry about is the pickup and sending unit, my pump is on the side of the engine block
