Well we found out that 2 circuits in the computer were burn, so we went ahead and bough a used one, and got it programmed by the seller with our VIN #. Now the car starts right up, but it will shut off regardless how much we accelerate.
We don't have a key fob, but we lock and unlock with the key without any success.
Any other ideas?

I would start a new thread in the ZJ section..there are certain oddities around this time regarding the dreaded "immobilser"..96 XJ doesnt have one, '97 XJ (export models do), but not USA (apparently)

You need to know if your VIN has an immobilser fitted, in which case they need a key and ignition lock that are compatible

does the vehicle always stall after about 3 secs ?
