Default Fuel pump problem..

So the other day I bought an 89 Cherokee limited. It has a few mechanical problems but one of them has been stumping me since I bought it. The guy i got it from says the computer in it is bad, therefore the fuel pump wont run when the motor does. So apparently he tapped a wire into some connector with two orange w/ black stripped wires running off of it on the driver side fender in the engine compartment. He then ran the wire across the air intake box and over to the battery to where every time you want to start the Jeep you must hard wire it to the battery. This manually turns on the fuel pump allowing it to run. Can anyone confirm this? or give me a fix? Thanks.

well, ghetto is better than no go... hahaha... if it works, then i doubt if there is any danger in it being bypassed and hardwired. however, what a PITA to have to connect it every time you wanna go. there is a resistor that might be bad causing it to not do its thing. i think its a pretty straightforward fix.

i wish i knew more about this stuff cause idk!! i guess that the ecm is a possibility. has it been on a code reader? even if no CEL, there might be something stored in there that could point you in the right direction. do a thread search or post question in the advanced section?

Alright man, I really appreciate the help. It also Idles incredibly low to where it shuts off, and then sometimes idles really super high. Is there anyway that could be contributing to the ECM aswell?
