Earlier Renix XJ had two different size gas tanks...a 20 gallon & a smaller one....My 88 has a 20 gallon, & I once had a 90 with a smaller tank....My question is do both tanks use the same fuel pump sending unit assembly? Rock Auto shows a Delphi with no tank size & a Carter that states a 20 gallon tank....
Here's the deal...Don't know if you guys have been following my posts.... long story short..I bought a brand new 88 Cherokee.& sold it in 90 to to a friend who ran it 31 years in the northeast...The fuel pump puked, & he could not find anyone to fix it due to rust...so rather than junk it, he gave it back to me.... Everything I touched in replacing the fuel pump fell apart from excessive rust. Fortunately I have a 90 LTD as a donor, that's basically rust free but damaged from a front end collision....The donor tank was nice & clean, I power washed the exterior, primed it with Rustoleum then painted it Rustoleum gloss black. I installed it using the 88 sending unit with a cheap - O fuel pump as I could not find a 'OEM Bosch'..... put it all back together & started the vehicle, gas sprayed from the NEW 3/8 hose & flow/suction nipple....the long & the short of it, that too has tiny rust holes that are invisible but the pressure is forcing the gas through.....Now I learned something new...there are no 2 size tanks, just the pickup tubes.....What ******......
Year: 1998 Classic (I'll get it running soon....) and 02 Grand
Model: Cherokee (XJ)
Engine: 4.0

Yeah, that's the dirty little secret.
I have often wondered if the later tanks, which are polyethylene, could be used in the earlier Cherokees. I'm pretty sure they would fit, but the plumbing is different, and the pressure is higher.
I remember pulling the fill tube out on my 95 Wrangler to convert from 15 gallon to 20-gallon. The tank was the same, but it had an extended tube that you could pull out. The sender was different so it read full for the first 5 gallons.
Does anybody know where I can buy a 'Bosch' fuel pump?... I entered the part number from the old pump on an internet search & nothing came up....Nothing in local auto part stores.....Thanks
Here's my collection of fuel pumps and I'm not done yet.....for the specific application 1988 Cherokee 4.0...On the extreme right is an 'Bosch' OEM assy taken out of my donor.....pic # 1 is the actual Bosch pump removed from my 1988. Part # on the pump 95808J0 -19. Pic # 2 is a Carquest which is presently installed, (this is a second new pump) Pic # 3 is a Delco, again for the same application as I was told.....After exhausting my efforts in finding the EXACT Bosch replacement I had to 'cob rig' (for the lack of a better term) the Carquest pump.....I was barely able to get it secure in the sending unit, the rubber adapters are wrong, the rube goldberg connections are mediocre at best...but the reality of life, how much time & effort can you put into replacing a fuel pump??? and I'm not done yet !, as the sending unit has microscopic rust holes & sprays gas under pressure.......Looking at the Amazon Bosch (to me) does not look like a plug & play....Not disputing the quality of the pump, but I'm reluctant to add yet another fuel pump to my collection..... So unless there's a Complete Bosch unit assembled in the sending unit, I'm forced to consider either the Delphi or Carter units
