Haha. Like I said before, they're fussy. But when they're in good working order IMO they're the best all-around t-case. My dad's XJ has the 231, neither of us are big fans lol

Yeah mines more than fussy. It's a little biotch. So do you think swapping out the t-case would fix my problems and I could shift in and out freely or does something else need to be addressed?

Will replacing the transfer case resolve this issue or is there something else that needs to be addressed first? Thanks.
ONce the lever is adjusted properly, I am confident that you won't have any more problems with it. Internally, there is nothing that "pushes" the gears out of 2wd. I'm pretty sure it will work fine. If it does come out after its properly adjusted that means your gears wore out at an angle in which case I dont give your TC a lot of time to live (not very likely)

As for your other worry, if it is not adjusted properly, it is likely that its only one of the ends of selection (2wd and Low) that will give you a problem.
To think of it, if you off road that often, maybe the bushings are worn out on the links.

I am pretty sure switching out TC will fix your problem because doing so, you will have to adjust the lever rods therefore fix your problem..

Try adjusting it first..

The only problem I've had is the chain started skipping after about 300 000km. A lot of that was hard core mud off roading and sand drag racing. Just put a new chain in and Now 513 000km, synthetic fluids and it still works as good as new.
Synthetic (Amsoil.com) goes a loooonnnggg way

I've got a friend with a ZJ that the chain skips on but that thing's had a few to hell and back runs. It's all in how you treat and maintain it.

I agree.. Racing is not easy on ANYTHING but damm those things can go when tuned. Won a few races against purpose built trucks. Nice to see a plated truck win against a trailer queen...

Default The Manual Says

The original 1996 Owners Manual for Cherokee Classic with 242 states that 'Full-Time' can be used with no decrease in gas mileage and can be used all the time in any condition including dry pavement.

My disclaimer to this is if you run a lunchbox up front than Full-Time becomes useless,
