Fun wiring problem with stuck-on interior lights.
Today in my 2000 Cherokee Classic, my interior lights decided to be stuck on even with the doors closed and the interior light switch on the stalk off. Here's what I've found out from testing things so far:
They only turn off when the rear window defroster switch is activated, but turn back on when that auto times out or is turned off. I have the heated side mirrors. No fuses in the interior fuse panel turn off the lights (I pulled #1-29). Pulling fuse #16 in the engine bay fuse panel does turn them off; doing this until the issue is fixed. I have already soldered a frayed ground wire in the drivers door wiring harness for the power windows where the door opens. I still currently have issues probably relating to frayed wires in that area such as not being able to lock the doors from the drivers switch while the door is open, and only being able to control the windows from the driver control panel. All door contact points seem to be working as the lights dim when any tested door is shut or close enough for the contacts to be touching.
Now, based on what I know and have tested, I'm guessing that I have a short somehow related to the defrosting unit, as the defrosting switch turns the lights off, which obviously shouldn't be happening. Based on that there's already been broken wires in the driver's door harness, my guess is that is where the short is occurring. Does anyone have any other takes or ideas on where the short or issue could be? Things to check out or common points of failure? Thanks!
Btw I had previously pulled a whole driver door harness from a junkyard jeep to replace mine and do they have the wiring for the heated mirrors in place even if that XJ didn't have the heated mirrors option?
