So for some reason the 15 amp fuse keeps blowing. The fuse is labeled ignition fuse but yet, blows out and causes the AC compressor and aux fan to stop working. If I put a new fuse in, it will only last a day or two, then blows again. Also, why is the spot labeled ignition fuse if it controls the AC Comp and cooling fan? This isn't the originally fuse box lid that came on my jeep but a JY one from another Xj so maybe it's labeled different. Thanks

If someone has replaced the fusebox, all bets are off on the labeling or the correct fuse sizes.
Pull the fuse and note every circuit that stops working. If it's the AC clutch, IIRC 15A is correct for that circuit.

Pull the connector off the clutch and see if the fuse holds. If so, put an ohmmeter across the clutch plug (with the fuse pulled) and start shaking the harness, looking for intermittent shorts.

I'll check that, thanks for the link. It hasn't done it in two days so I don't know why it stopped all of a sudden.

Alright well, the fuse blew again today. Seems to do it when it gets hot outside, like in the mid to high 80s

Like when you are running the A/C?
Pull the clutch connector and see if the fuse holds.

what do you mean by clutch connector? The compressor wire plug? Yes when The AC is running, I'll just be driving down the road and then the AC starts to get warm, pull the fuse out and it will be blown.

Yes, the wires going to the compressor. It has an electronic clutch to engage/disengage the compressor from the belt pulley.
I'm wondering if the winding in that clutch has an intermittent short.

alright, I'll try that, is there a way to check the winding or to fix shorts n the clutch wiring?

If you disconnect the plug and the fuse stops blowing, the winding is bad. I don't know of any specific resistance or other checks you can do.

The easiest way to fix it is to replace it. Scrapyard unit if cash it tight. They really aren't field-repairable.

dont know if this helps.. but on my 95 Cherokee SE the fuse that controls my compressor and fan motor calls for a 30 amp

yea,,I was wondering about maybe if I didn't have the correct size fuse. What location in the fuse box is it? The on that keeps blowing is a 15amp in the bottom right corner of the mini fuses.

This is on the fuse panel under the dash. 95/96 went to a 30 Amp fuse for the HVAC Blower for some reason. Prior to 95 the fuse rating is 25 Amps.

The 15 Amp fuse you have that keeps blowing is specific to the AC Compressor Clutch relay power contacts and the Rad Fan relay control coil.


The 30 Amp fuse that was mentioned also powers the AC Compressor Clutch relay control coil.
