Does torque converter fill up when running?
Drain back down into the pan when not?
Could account for your discrepency.
Never really thought about any of this till now.
I actually started with a cold engine and trans. I had check fluid levels the night before after I had drove the Jeep and it was still hot. Once I drained and refilled I drove the Jeep for about 2 miles getting up to 45mph. Each and every time I drained the pan I got the exact same amount of fluid. Of course, just for clarification, the Jeep was not running when draining the pan and I had let it sit for five minutes before draining.
