My 98 is exactly the same... If i fill it, the gauge will move towards E as it should, but once i hit 1/4, i have maybe 5 miles before the gas light comes on, and im bucking lol

Default fuel pump and gauge adjustment

well you don't have to do anything like making holes in the floor or puling the tank...just get ya a nice pillow, lay under the rear axle and reach up and do the work. it can be done with the tank still in the car, really it is NOT very hard to do. do NOT bend the float arm, it is best to adjust the resistor coil by loosening the little screw on the top and moving the resistor in the oppropriate direction....good luck, once you do it, you will see it isn't a very big deal...more messy then anything else...good luck.

Are we talking the same year here? I don't remember there being enough room to get my hands between the tank and floorboard, let alone enough to pull the pump unit.

91 should be on the front of the tank and when I've had to do mine I just jacked up the rear end put a Jack stand on both sides of the frame and let the axle droop down. Had enough space to get the sending unit out and put a new one in.

I was driving on E the other day and I went to fill up, it only took 14.5 gallons before the gas station pump clicked off. so I am going to assume that on E I still have 5.5 gallons x ~16 to ~20 miles = 88 to 110 miles. I'm not really eager to test this out however.

If you never let it get that low, don't have to throw down $60at the station ever!
