all of you posting should be posting driving habits as well as mods done. alot of you have bigger tires but nothing done to recalibrate speedo/mileage. i'll be posting up the results of my first tank thru the xj in a few days.

the speedo on 31s with 3.55 rear end on auto with 4.0 is off 11% so add 11% to your total mileage before dividing the amount of gallons you took to fill back to full. i take that into consideration because i know since my speedo is of 11%, then my odometer is off the same amount. plus, i had to do those corrections on the fly in my 89 325i but i was converting from kilo to mph because it had a euro cluster in it with kilos and litres. since i work on base i had to be able to do the conversion so the MPs would leave me alone.

You really have to consider where you buy your gas, too. Pure gas is better than ethanol gas and produces better mileage, all things considered. It can be enough to be noticeable - like a couple MPG. Our V10 motorhome pulls 11 with gas, 9 with ethanol/gas. I think the impact is probably more pronounced the harder the engine is working, too.

mine did 16.7 stock mixed highway and local roads. That's according to the onboard computer. Right now the OBC reads 14mpg after a lift and bigger tires, my guess is that's wrong since the speedo's off. I am probably still getting 15-16.2 with the lift and tires added on.

If we were all out to get 30mpg. We would all be out driving civics and priuses... I will drive my XJ no matter what the mileage.
BTW who sells gas with no ethanol? Iwould buy that in a second.

Usually the mainstream stations like BP, Shell, CITGO (hate those communists), Amoco, etc., have 100%. The midgrade at the cheap stations and the regionals like Marathon have 100% gas...or, at least, so they say on the pumps.
Ethanol is garbage. Just more political garbage. I live on a farm in the Thumb of Michigan and all the farmers around here raise field corn that winds up being processed into ethanol in Marysville, MI, about 45 miles away. I still hate the stuff...millions of acres wasted growing corn for ethanol that reduces everyone's mileage.
You can make up something this stupid, it has to be Congress.

There is a small American oil company (oil from and refined in America allegedly) called Amerigreen that has a big NO ETHANOL sign on their pumps. My guess is you could ask the people at the gas station, but I doubt they would know for sure.

I can squeeze 20mpg out of my stock 93 with 4.0, 5 speed, 4wd, and 235/75s.
I drive like an old fart.. 40-45 mph, 1500rpm, shifting at 1800 rpm. This is all on my daily commute 40 mile round trip with stop sign/lights every mile, however half of the drive is in the "country", but still have stop signs every mile.
I have been keeping records over the last couple of months and have consistently averaged 20+mpg. Filled up today with a best of 21.95 mpg.
