Really? Like as in electronic component adjustment? mechanical? vacuum? I had no clue... I will have to look. Being able to adjust these would be GREAT! I have asked about it here several times over the years but this is the first time I have heard they might be adjustable! I was going to play with porting restrictions because it seems to just be applying too much vacuum too fast, but the roll over kind of set me back on that test project. lol

My 98 the cruise quit working, the cruise light turns on but no cruise.
I remember reading a few years ago about several fixes. I would need to find some posts and articles again.

Cruise control doesn't work under 35 mph.
It's not perfect or precise but it's more constant than using my foot to maintain certain speed range such as around ~55 mph or around ~35 mph, etc.
My speedometers off (compared to gps it reads lower) this is because I run 235 tires, the stock speedo gear from the factory I believe is for 215's or 225's. I never bothered to swapped out my speedo gear.

I prefer the cruise to keep me out of getting tickets as my foot isn't all that steady. Under some condition I seem to want to go faster without the cruise. On longer trips one can lay back and not worry about the speed limit.

A restrictor in the vacuum line could work if it's too aggressive. It sounds to me like yours might not be aggressive enough, letting the speed drop way off then trying to catch up and over shooting the speed. If it gets worse when towing that would point more towards it not being aggressive enough….I think. Check to make sure you don't have any vacuum leaks or something restricting/sticking the cable.

Both of mine, '87 & '90, have the control module under the dash. A plastic box about an inch thick and around 2"X3". On the box are screws for adjusting it. From reading it seems the later XJs don't have this and the CC smarts are built into the PCM.
A restrictor in the vacuum line could work if it's too aggressive. And when I am pulling a trailer it compensates even more both directions to try and maintain the speed. It really acts like it is getting and releasing vacuum too fast each cycle. It goes overboard up to speed then drops back too fast. It has drove me nuts since I got it and I just had to quit using it because I could do a much better job of "floating" the throttle manually to maintain a speed.

Lol... Yeah everything good except the Jeep. I posted it in the "What did you do to your Cherokee today thread". Just trying to figure out where to go with it now because the whole thing is twisted. Very slow graceful roll off road because a bank gave away on me. 0 miles an hour forward, just a very slow sideways roll over in slow motion.

hmm still worth it to have for me since these things well atleast mine just sails up in mph and then oh im speeding and being theres cops everywhere yeah no good lol plus i do alot of long drives as well and like i said before i dont realize how fast im going half the times and then my foot gets tired lol. But little update 210 miles and im on the second line. Cant wait to get a new exhaust system with new o2 sensors i think i have an exhaust leak because when i turn it off i hear like a pressure sound when shutting it off underneath.

That's a fact and I absolutely agree with replacing something that needs it. What I'm talking about is the "it can't be done so don't even try, just accept it for what it is" type negative predisposed ideology.

So i said screw it because a few months ago i got a check engine light saying my evap purge solenoid was messing up but then a month down the line the cel went away. Well snooping around on the forums and reading about this and that im like hmm what harm can 40 bucks do at the moment. Because! my friend whom has a cherokee too had his evap solenoid go too and once he replaced his his started clicking where as mine never has. Ever.... So i meandered over into the auto farts store and bought a solenoid and zoomed over to home to zoop it in and low and behold once i started it the idle dropped right down where as before it hung around 1500 rpms and slowly dropped down. My rev hanging headache was gone! No more slamming on the brakes to slow down! So i just got done with short trip to see if my mpgs improved and ill give a few pictures
This was what i got before 60 miles on a full tank to this:
So then a fellow member posted a picture of this to match and this has literally been my reference point to what i think a normal jeep should run like:
Then drum roll: Holy mother of mary its back!!!!!! My MPGS ARE BACK!!!!!!! My jeep felt like it went through a whole body cleanse spirit of the willow wisp session because my god this thing is a rocket ship now! before i would have to mash into the gas to get it to 40 mph but when i do that soon i realize im nudging 75 mph. Sweet thrust of the car gods blessed me tonight with this and this is 40 bucks well spent! Im gonna sleep happily tonight knowing my wallet wont shiv me in my sleep. Now for new o2 sensors and maybe 4 hole injectors and see what else i can squeak outta here. Oh and as for the gas filler issue this has solved it!
Im pretty sure the old solenoid was causing it to have a pretty good vacuum leak and that was why i was chewing through so much gas and getting horrendous, Vile, Villainous, Poopy mileage and performance. I am a happy jeeper and am proud of my jeep once more. Amazing how one stupid little thing can wreck a beautiful running piece of machinery.
