Gas Tank Armor
My 90 XJ came to me with a plastic cover over the gas tank that is held on with the Tank straps.
My 86 Parts vehicle has a metal one that bolts onto the unibody(2 bolts on each side),and slips right over the tank straps and everything.
Are the dimensions of the tanks on both vehicles likely to be the exact same?
Id like to put the metal one off the 86 on my 90(after taking the plastic one off of my 90 of course)
Any pros and cons of the final assembled product that anyone can think of?
Things I think of are:
-Weight- Obviously the metal one is gonna weigh more,so that might be something to consider,But really would the metal vs the plastic make THAT much of a difference in the weight dept? MINOR CON
-Protection-The metal one will protect better than the plastic one.Thats a big plus-PRO
-Hitch-I have a reciever hitch on my 90 so there may be some fitment issues to deal with on the install of the metal one- MINOR CON
Anyone care to chime in on thoughts about this swap.
Basically If anyone else was in my scenario, would they choose to keep the plastic skid plate already installed,or opt to upgrade to a metal one.
