I got them at orileys
s4185 appears to be correct but s320 is also a oil pressure switch no temperature sender. Should be
BWD - Coolant Temperature Sender
Part # WT398 but it does not state gauge or light .

No on the Fram. Head to NAPA and get the proper filter (Wix) for your XJ.

X2 on the filter, Get a wix (napa gold), is what I do.

You guys are sure you are talking about the temp gauge sender on the LR of the head, and not the coolant temp, (low left on the block), or the E-fan sensor on the rad there by the airbox.

i was thinking could my gauge be bad i tested it with a battery before i installed but could it still be bad? and now my gas gauge is'nt working, could the plastic soldering stuff have corroded or could it even happen also what ground does your gauges run off of i was going to try cleaning the ground really good before i remove my dash again

Can you describe how the "temp gauge sender" differs from the "coolant temp"??
I thought the sensor on the Left Rear of the head sends the signal (temperature) to the dashboard meter...😕😕😕

Sender operates gauge..Sensor controls ecm and fan function and gauge depending on year.

Both gauges work by sensors grounding if wires are grounded and gauges dont peg gauge or wiring /connection would be suspect.

There were a few spots on the back of the instrument panel that looked like some corrosion, could that be it? I'll get pics after work

Right, the one on the rear of the head on 87 to 90 and some years after, (to 96?), is for the gauge/light. (grounding it's single wire will make the gauge go up, or the light come on)Then the one down under on the left side of the block tells the engine temp to the ECU for engine controls. Then a third on the left rear of the rad. is for the E-Fan. Renix has nothing on the t-stat housing.
