Default gear oil w/powertrax

I ordered a Powertrax locker today for my 29 spline 8.25. It should be here tomorrow and I hope to install it this weekend.

I have heard these lockers operate smoother with heavier weight gear oil. Does anyone here know if this is true, and if so, what weight do you recommend?

I have a EZ-Locker and its is quieter also with the 75w-140. I am thinking of going to an SAE 250 next change to see if there is a difference.

But.. if you do alot of street driving and MPG is your concern, than using a heavier viscosity gear lube is going to sacrifice a bit of MPG

that is insanely heavy. in the cold your oil will turn to sludge. no, it will be sludge actually. dont do that.

Mine is a trail rig only... so it really doesn't matter. I thought about getting a bottle and putting it out in the garage for a few days and see how it pours at sub-zero.....

I would stick with some good synthetic 75-140 that has friction modifier added to it.
